Non-Gynaecological Cytology

The Non-Gynaecological Cytology Unit (NGCU) is a specialized unit dedicated to the morphological evaluation of cytological samples obtained by fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) or by harvesting exfoliated cells or removed by abrasive techniques (washed, brushed, secretions).

Fine needle aspiration biopsy:
- Thyroid – Colloid nodular hyperplasia
- Primitive neoplasms
Exfoliative cytology:
- Infection / inflammation
- Primitive or metastatic neoplasms
IMP TESTS
Fine needle aspiration biopsy:
- Thyroid
- Breast
- Lymph node
- Others
Exfoliative cytology:
- Urinary (urination or bladder wash)
- Pulmonary (washed or brushed bronchial)
- Effusions from body cavities (pleural fluid, ascitic fluid, pericardial fluid, etc.)
- other effusions (CSF)
