Vulvovaginitis – The Major Challenge in Portugal

Approximately 75% of women will experience at least one episode of some type of vulvovaginitis during their lifetime. However, symptoms (such as itching, burning, discharge, and discomfort, among others) are often similar, which can delay diagnosis and compromise treatment effectiveness. In this context, addressing vulvovaginitis requires a precision-based approach.

IMP Diagnostics has recently launched a new panel using PCR technology that enables the detection of the main etiological agents of vulvovaginitis in a single test, ensuring:

  • Accurate identification of the infectious agent;
  • Appropriate therapy;
  • Greater treatment effectiveness;
  • Reduced recurrence rates.

In order to provide further insights and outline the Portuguese reality, we are currently developing a national study involving 180 participants, aimed at epidemiologically characterizing the vulvovaginal microbiota and identifying the most prevalent etiological agents.

Through our social media channels, you will be able to follow the results of this study.
